Spring Has Sprung

Dear Member of The Waldorf School of Santa Barbara Community,

It has been a busy time at WSSB! Some highlights include the fruitful conversations during our parent-teacher conferences; the 5th Grade play; a spring performance to a packed Great Room; an elegant tea party in Mr. Aaron’s garden; school tours for prospective families; planning our last term and its many events; and students playing in the rain, working diligently in their classrooms, and helping to care for Farmer Larry’s young lambs.

Mr. Aaron’s White Rose Kindergarten hosted a beautiful spring tea party for his families.

Ms. Nelson’s 5th Grade worked hard to pull off their production of Demeter and Persephone. The play was based on the old Greek story about motherhood, love, and the changing of the seasons. Beyond helping the students more deeply understand this great ancient civilization, producing such a play — Ms. Nelson tells us — fostered empathy, confidence, focus, and class bonding.

Ms. Nelson’s Fifth Grade performed their wonderful play “Demeter and Persephone,” a culmination of their learning about Ancient Greece.

Our new WSSB sign was installed Wednesday morning. Thank you to all the faculty, staff, and parents who helped with this project. And a very special thank you to Chris Del Moro who oversaw the project and — with Ben Kenan — did the bulk of the work (the designing, sanding, painting, and installing). Thank you, Chris and Ben! And finally, thank you to the Tautrims (an alumni family) who donated the local redwood slab from a felled tree in Stow Grove Park.

Our new WSSB sign.

PS The Poem of the Day is by Rudolf Steiner:

The wishes of the soul are springing

The deeds of the will are thriving

The fruits of life are maturing

I feel my destiny

My destiny finds me

I feel my star

My star finds me

I feel my goals in life

My goals in life are finding me

My soul and the great world are one

Life grows more radiant about me

Life grows more challenging for me

Life grows more abundant within me
