Michaelmas, Field Trips, and CSA Offering

Thank you to all who made today’s Michaelmas Festival a success! The morning was meaningful and full of joy and community. The classes started by performing a traditional all-school play featuring gnomes, animals, fishermen, farmers, courageous children, messengers, guardians, stars, revolutionaries, and of course, the dragon and St. Michael. A big thank you to Ms. Lama for creating the vision!

After the play, students created clay dragons followed by a delicious snack of “dragon bread” with butter and jam. Next came the challenges including an obstacle course, sack races, water challenges, and dragon egg races. The students were full of enthusiasm and spirit!

Last Friday, the 5th grade class went on a field trip to the Honda Ridge Chumash Rock Art site located at Vandenberg Space Force Base. After hiking up to a more remote part of the base overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the children imagined what life may have been like 8,000 years ago. Then, they drove to the launch facility and got to learn about the science, technology, and cooperation it takes to launch a rocket. It was a very unique and unforgettable experience!

On Sunday, the 8th Grade class will be leaving to go to Headwaters Outdoor School in Shasta where they will spend a week in the woods, take a river rafting trip, and complete a rite of passage.  We look forward to hearing more about their adventures!

Last night, we held the first Parent Association meeting of the year.  We welcomed parents from most classes as well as our faculty representative. The focus of the association is enrichment and engagement. We look forward to a year of learning and supporting. More information will be forthcoming.  Here is the verse we started the meeting with:

When human beings meet together

seeking the spirit with unity of purpose

then they will also find their way

to each other.

Rudolf Steiner

We have an exciting opportunity for the community.  We are partnering with Something Good Organics to offer a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) to our families and staff.  They will offer weekly boxes of fresh, organic produce delivered to our campus on Wednesdays.  All you have to do is go online at https://www.somethinggoodorganics.com/csa to choose your box and select Local Pick Up at Waldorf School of Santa Barbara. They will give $2 per box back to the school.
