Rising First Grade Teacher and Other News
Dear Member of The Waldorf School of Santa Barbara Community,
We are happy to announce the First Grade teacher for the 2022-23 academic year. Ms. Paige Sleep will soon join our WSSB faculty to lead a beautiful group of children.
Ms. Sleep was born and raised here in Goleta. With a BA in Communication from UC Davis and a Masters in Education and teaching credential from UC Santa Barbara, she arrives with the highest of recommendations. Currently she is enrolled in Waldorf Teacher Training and finishing the academic year with a Fourth Grade class in Santa Ynez. By way of further introduction, we offer the following words from Ms. Sleep herself:
I feel so lucky that I was born and raised in Goleta with my parents, my older brother, my twin, and of course our dog! With my sister, I grew up playing sports: volleyball, softball, soccer. During favorite summers I traveled the Central Coast to participate in softball tournaments on the Goleta Thunder All-Star Team. I also have always been drawn to the arts. As a child, I participated in theater, holding onto this passion into adulthood. Lately, I’ve been drawing and painting as I work with my current Fourth Grade class.
I loved school when I was young and that’s probably why I was drawn to education. Some of my most influential mentors were teachers and coaches. After tutoring for some years and then working at Deckers, I accepted my first teaching position and never looked back. I then went on to complete my teaching credential at UCSB where I also received my Masters in Education. While writing my thesis on intrinsic motivation I learned of Waldorf education. I was taken by how the education values play, joy, and the child’s spirit. This inspired my future teaching practice, eventually bringing me here. I am so excited to be joining the WSSB community and can’t wait to welcome all the Golden Knights and their families.
Welcome, Ms. Sleep!
In gratitude,
The WSSB Admin Team
