Nature, Cookies, and Swiss Cheese
Dear Members of The Waldorf School of Santa Barbara Community,
Heart-thawing it was to see our youngest children resume school this week. Their beauty makes one stand up straighter and walk more slowly, become more mindful, awake. Recently on campus we overheard this exchange between a parent and his child. The child: "What are your favorite things in the world?" The parent (charmed, caught off guard, sincere): "Well, you, your brother, and your mom." The child: "Mine's nature, cookies, and swiss cheese."
Such happenings here at WSSB not only afford comic relief but return us to our heart's inmost request: to serve these children, to really show up for them with kindness, humility, and care. As William Blake says, "And we are put on this earth a little space that we may bear the beams of love." (What a notion -- bearing the beams of love.) Needless to say, we look forward to the year ahead, a year rich -- we hope -- with nature, cookies, and swiss cheese.
In gratitude,
The WSSB Admin Team
PS The poem of the day is by Emily Dickinson:
The Only News I Know
The Only News I know
Is Bulletins all Day
From Immortality.
The Only Shows I see --
Tomorrow and Today --
Perchance Eternity --
The Only One I meet
Is God -- The Only Street --
Existence -- This traversed
If Other News there be --
Or Admirabler Show --
I'll tell it You --
