Happy Long Weekend

Dear Members of The Waldorf School of Santa Barbara Community,

Today at our staff meeting we took time to extend gratitude. One teacher said that every morning driving to work she sees how lucky she is:
lucky to serve the children on-campus and in-person, lucky to be in actual, unmediated community. It could, she knows, be otherwise (as it is for so many now).

We at WSSB know that we adults are "preparers of the path," building and shaping the world our children will live in. In light of that we feel a keen sense of responsibility, and consider this responsibility to serve your child a great and inspiring gift.

We hope you all have a rest-filled weekend. (This weekend -- February 12th through February 15th -- is a long weekend owing to President's Day and Lincoln's birthday.)

Thank you for being a part of the WSSB community.

PS -- The pensée of the day is by the esteemed Waldorf teacher Herbert Hahn:

"Remember daily that you are continuing the work of the spiritual world with the children in your care. You are preparers of the path for these young souls who wish to form their lives in these difficult times. The spiritual world will always stand by you in this task. This is the wellspring of strength for which you stand in need."
PPS -- The poem of the day is by Joy Harjo:

Eagle Poem

To pray you open your whole self
To sky, to earth, to sun, to moon
To one whole voice that is you.
And know there is more
That you can’t see, can’t hear;
Can’t know except in moments
Steadily growing, and in languages
That aren’t always sound but other
Circles of motion.
Like eagle that Sunday morning
Over Salt River. Circled in blue sky
In wind, swept our hearts clean
With sacred wings.
We see you, see ourselves and know
That we must take the utmost care
And kindness in all things.
Breathe in, knowing we are made of
All this, and breathe, knowing
We are truly blessed because we
Were born, and die soon within a
True circle of motion,
Like eagle rounding out the morning
Inside us.
We pray that it will be done
In beauty.
In beauty.
