Heather Nelson has been teaching for over 20 years. She studied Environmental Science at the University of California, Berkeley and, after graduating, began her teaching career as an outdoor educator in Northern California. For the following six years her classrooms were oak woodlands, redwood forests, and mountain streams. Her summers were spent guiding children on extended backpacking trips in the Trinity Alps Wilderness. In 1999 she took her first teaching job in the classroom, and soon received her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential. After moving to Santa Barbara in 2006 she received her Masters of Education from Antioch University, and began her training at the Waldorf Institute of Southern California.
Ms. Nelson is wholeheartedly grateful for the opportunity to stretch her creative wings everyday, and to be a part of the vibrant community that is the Waldorf School of Santa Barbara. Some of the things she treasures are low tide walks with her husband and daughter, making music with friends and family, backpacking, practicing yoga, and surfing.
